Effluent Treatment Improvements for a Large Dairy Products Facility

This major national dairy plant produces dairy products including skimmed milk powder and butter. Process effluents include milk, lost product and CIP liquors. On a number of occasions the company has exceeded the consent conditions for discharge from their effluent treatment plant. To remediate problems of variations in effluent quality from the biological treatment plant, the company had made use of bioaugmentation.

Environmental Biotechnology Limited was asked to independently evaluate the current status of the effluent treatment plant and the use of bioaugmentation. EBL undertook an assessment of day to day plant performance which was compared to the original design parameters. The study resulted in recommendations for remediation procedures to improve overall plant performance.
